Caring for your Restio timber pieces
Every piece of Restio furniture is built to last, and how you care for it in the years ahead plays a real part in that. Here is what we do before a piece ever leaves our workshop, and what we recommend once it's in your home.
Our finish
Before leaving our workshop, every timber component is finished by hand with two coats of OSMO UV-Protection Oil. Made from natural vegetable oils and waxes, OSMO penetrates deep into the wood to create a durable, microporous finish. This protects the timber from within while still allowing it to breathe naturally, rather than sealing it under a surface layer as a varnish or lacquer would. The result is a finish that enhances the timber's natural grain and colour, while providing lasting protection against UV exposure, moisture, dirt, and everyday wear.
Longterm maintenance
Depending on how much exposure your piece gets to sun, rain, and general use, we recommend reapplying a maintenance coat of OSMO oil every 12 to 24 months. This top-up replenishes the finish, preserves the timber's colour, and extends the piece's working life.
If left untreated, the timber will gradually weather to a silver-grey patina, as all natural hardwoods do over time. This is not a fault or a sign of deterioration; it is simply the wood aging naturally when exposed to the elements. Some of our customers choose to let this happen deliberately, valuing the weathered look as much as the original finish. The choice is entirely yours.
Tips to maximise the lifespan of your timber furniture
Wipe spills immediately.
Clean with a soft brush or cloth and warm water.
Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
Protect surfaces from excessive heat and prolonged moisture.
Use protective pads under decorative items.
With a little regular care, your Restio piece will continue to serve, and look the part, for many years to come.
